Arkansas has agreed to a deal with SMU coach Chad Morris, according a person with knowledge of the decision.

The person requested anonymity because of the deal had not been announced publicly.

The 49-year-old Morris agreed to a six-year contract, according to the Associated Press.

Morris emerged as Arkansas’ pick to replace Bret Bielema after Auburn’s Gus Malzahn turned down the Hogs last weekend. Bielema was fired last month.

Arkansas’ search began without an athletic director; Jeff Long was also fired last month. Hunter Yurachek was hired from Houston on Monday.

Morris went 14-22 in three seasons with the Mustangs, including a 7-5 record and Frisco Bowl appearance this year.

Previously, he served as offensive coordinator at Clemson and was a successful high school coach in Texas.

Bielema was fired after the Razorbacks went 4-8 this season. He went 29-34 in his five years with three bowl appearances.
