After a 10-day break for exams, USC returns to competition tonight with the annual battle against arch-rival Clemson. It will be the first game of the year for USC against a Power Five school, although head coach Frank Martin says his team might be just as well off playing a mid-major given the perception by some.
"When people speak about our nonconference schedule they never talk about, we go to an ACC school," Frank Martin said.
"They've been a good basketball team every single year that I've been here."
USC opened the season at Wofford in the brand new Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The atmosphere was electric although Martin expects Littlejohn Coliseum to be "Littlejohn X 3".
"We've been on the road for a couple of games, so hopefully it isn't a big (deal) for us," Martin said.
"You know what happens two weeks from now? There's 18 Clemsons coming at us, so we better be ready for this one."
USC is 8-2. Clemson is 9-1 after Saturday's 71-69 win over a Florida team that was ranked 22nd. The two teams met in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Florida. The Tigers trailed by 12 points in the second half before rallying.
