The first day of Shrine Bowl practice saw former opponents now working together as teammates.
Case in point - Dakereon Joyner and Bryce Thompson. Joyner is the Fort Dorchester quarterback who went 1-1 against Dutch Fork this past season. Thompson is the Silver Foxes' electrifying skill player who was a key weapon for Dutch Fork in its run to a second consecutive 5A state championship. After two intense games where they were on opposing sides, Thompson and Joyner are working together as they try to help the Sandlappers beat the Tar Heels Saturday in the annual Shrine Bowl.
Joyner is two days removed from his trip to Myrtle Beach where he was named the state's Mr. Football. The USC commit will be enrolling at USC in January as his college career is about to get underway with off-season workouts and his first spring practice.
Thompson said he's not sure if he will sign in the early signing period or wait until the tradition February date and arrive at his chosen school in June.
