Home Runs Power Clemson In Wake Forest Sweep

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Clemson baseball team wrapped up their road series against Wake Forest and this game was a home run Derby for Clemson as they won 9-4 for the sweep.

Who could hit the best homer? The Tigers were up 4-0 in the 5th inning and Chris Williams starts the derby with a long ball to left field on a swing with two outs. 11th homer of the year for him gives Clemson the 5-0 lead.

Grayson Byrd, the next batter up, follows Williams with a moonshot to right field and it just gets over the fence and the Wake Forest outfielder. Home run number six on the year for him gives Clemson the 6-0 score

In the 8th it's 6-4 game. Not anymore. Kyle Wilkie goes yard. His second homer of the year gives the Tigers breathing room.

Four home runs for the Tigers on Sunday as they sweep wake Forest with a 9-4 win. The Tigers improve to 14-7 in conference and 29-11 on the year.

"Offensively I don't know if I could've asked for a better day," Clemson head coach Monte Lee said after the game.

"We had two big innings. We hit the baseball hard. Chris Williams with a homer. Grayson Byrd. Kyle Wilkie and Drew Wharton. The two home runs late were big for us by Wilkie and Wharton. But just putting together good at-bats again and did a nice job on the mound and you know and found a way to get a sweep here at Wake Forest which we needed. So we needed to get back to our winning ways and we certainly played that way this weekend."

Next up for Clemson is Kennesaw State on Tuedsay at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
