Gamecock Baseball Sweeps No.19 LSU

COLUMBIA, SC — The Gamecocks were one win away from sweeping Number 19 LSU at Founders Park on Sunday and USC they would do get the W in a crazy comeback. Down 0-6 they rally for the 8-6 victory in the finale.

Justin Row brought his broom to the ball park. He hand a certified web gem in the first inning with a barehanded left hand scoop on on a ground ball. He turns and fires in one motion to first base for the out to end the inning with a gorgeous play in the opening frame.

One would think that would set the tone for USC defensively, however, LSU could score. Daniel Crabera takes a Cody Morris pitchout to left field and that's a three run bomb to put the visitors ahead 3-0 in the third innings.

South Carolina trailed 6-0 and looked down and out until the sixth inning.

With two outs ona full count Noah Campbell singles to left field for two rbis to pump some life back into the Gamecocks and the Founders Park fans. That was two of four runs for USC in that inning.

In the seventh Row goes from defense to offense and smashes the baseball to left field for a two run homer to tie the game 6-6.

Eddy Demurias stifled LSU as he tossed four strikeouts in four innings after taking over for Morris after he posted four innings of work with 4Ks.

Then LT Tolbert caps USC's rally in the eighth with a rbi single to right field. Carlos Cortes and TJ Hopkins score for what would be the winning runs as Sawyer Bridges closes for the Carolina.

The Gamecocks come all the way back to win 8-6 and sweep LSU.

USC sweeps LSU for the first time ever at Founders Park and apparently Clemson of all teams helped the Gamecocks pull off this rally."

"Coach Kingston called us together. I don't remember what inning we scored the four runs but as we were going to hit that inning he called us all together and said 'you remember when we played Clemson we were down six to nothing and came back and tied that game up. Don't stress just keep believing in our approach'," Tolbert said after the game. He finished with two hits and the two clutch rbis. "Once we got into their bullpen we know that we had a chance to come back and put some runs up."

"This is was a great weekend," Mark Kingston said. "We got a reality check on Tuesday and we responded the way you want a team and program to respond but now it's on to the next game. We need to do a good job on Tuesday because that's been a cause of concern this year and then it's on to the next weekend."

The Gamecocks are now 23-17 and 9-9 in the SEC. They are actually one game out of third place in the SEC East behind Vanderbilt. USC will be in Nashville to take on the Commodores next weekend.

"We're going to enjoy this weekend because I think it was very important for us to have this kind of success against such a great program like LSU but once that settles in it's on to the next game."

That next game will be this Tuesday in Greenville against Furman.
