The 8K in 8 Days campaign continued for the USC men's basketball team Monday. The Gamecocks visited the Dorn VA Medical Center to spend some time with veterans, staff and patients.
They signed autographs and took pictures as they made their rounds around the hospital. This was an uplifting day for the players who helped the patients take their minds off of their ailments and procedures for little while this afternoon.
David Omura is the Dorn VAMC Director and he knows that this kind of visit is important for the veterans and the Gamecocks.
"It means the world to our veterans. It's exciting to have people that are showing interest in their lives and thanking them for their commitment to our nation. It really just shows that USC athletics has a higher level of commitment to our veterans that you'll see anywhere else across the nation. Our veterans, our staff and everyone is just excited to have them here every year and we're just excited to be a part of a collaborative team," Omura said.
USC junior forward Chris Silva looks forward to taking a small break from the grind of being a college athlete to pay homage to the veterans at Dorn.
"We're always working, we're always doing schoolwork, basketball workouts, so coming out and taking time out and coming out to say thank you is always important."
USC will host the City Of Columbia Parks And Rec Department on Wednesday evening at 5:30 at the USC Volleyball Courts for their next 8K in 8 Days event.
