Saturday night soccer was on the pitch at Stone Stadium. The South Carolina men's soccer team hosted UAB in a Conference-USA matchup. When the clock hit zero on a 1-0 win for the Gamecocks they can boast that both the women's and men's soccer teams are the hottest in the country.
The first half went scoreless but Danny Deakin draws a foul inside the goalie box which set him up for a penalty kick.
Deakin elects to go for the left side and he blasts one in net for the goal. Deakin's sixth goal of the year gives Carolina the 1-0 advantage.
That's all they would need as William Pyle makes five saves for his fourth shutout the year. USC wins 1-0.
The Gamecocks have won 7 of their last 8 games and are unbeaten during that span. USC is 8-3-1 overall and lead Conference USA with 3-0-1 mark after the win.
USC hosts Wake Forest on Tuesday night at 7 pm.
The No.2 USC women's soccer team hosts No.17 Florida on Sunday at 3pm. A win for the women will set a new program record with 14 consecutive victories.
