Columbia, SC (WLTX) - For the first time this season, the South Carolina Gamecocks have made one of the major college football rankings.

The College Football Playoff Rankings, released Tuesday night, has the Gamecocks at number 24.

The team was nearly ranked in the other two major polls this week. They received 30 votes in the Associated Press survey, which would have made them number 28 if the rankings went beyond 25. And in the coaches, they just missed the cut, finishing at 26th.

Arch-rival Clemson is all the way up at number three, which means they would be in the college football playoff as it stands now. (The top four teams all make that tournament)

Those two teams meet each other this Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. For USC it's a chance to improve their bowl standing, while for the Tigers, they're still in the running to repeat as national champions.
