The South Carolina women's soccer team will be in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament on Sunday when they host Santa Clara.

The Gamecocks won a physical game last night against Wisconsin in the 2nd round. Freshman Luciana Zullo scored the game winner for the Gamecocks. They underclassmen have been the engine for USC's season but the upperclassmen are the keys, the ignition and the steering wheel.

Head Coach Shelley Smith is confident her team can continue to perform well because the players, from freshmen to seniors have connected.

"All year we've won games because of the players on the field, no matter the class they are, freshmen, seniors. By this point of the season they've had a lot of experience. A lot of them have helped us from the start and they've just continued to grow as players and we're better team now than we were and a lot has to do with how the freshmen have come along this year," Smith said.

The four-time SEC coach of the year continued to praise the rookies and how her team has come together at the most important of the year.

"Credit to them to be ready but also to our returning players to lead them and bring them along all season, give them confidence and help teach them what it takes to be successful."

USC and Santa Clara play at 2 pm tomorrow at Stone Stadium.
