The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association has named USC freshman outfielder Carlos Cortes to one of its All-American teams.

Cortes earned NCBWA second team All-American honors after a rookie year where Cortes produced a team high 12 homer runs and 41 rbis while hitting .286.

The Oviedo, Fl native led South Carolina in batting average (.327) during SEC play. He also had seven homers and 23 rbis in conference matchups.

Cortes was also named to the All-SEC Freshmen Team and the All-SEC Tournament team after helping lead the Gamecocks to the conference semifinals as an 11 seed. USC was the first team to do that in SEC history.
