PJ and Sindarius Headline Friday's Scout Team

Since it's Legends Weekend for the USC men's basketball program, a couple of guys who became legends last season returned to Columbia and lent a hand at practice.

It might be the best scout team USC has ever had.

Three members of last year's Final Four team were on hand for practice. PJ Dozier and Sindarius Thornwell are busy with the professional careers, but the NBA All-Star Weekend allowed them to come back to Columbia. Those two were joined by former guard Duane Notice and guard Rakym Felder who is not playing this season as he continues to meet his obligations laid out by head coach Frank Martin. Throw in Brian Bowen, the highly touted former Louisville recruit and you have a starting five that could return to the Final Four and perhaps stick around for the two games.

But instead, this group was created to give the current Gamecocks a taste of just what it takes to succeed at this level. Dozier and Thornwell also gave the team their opinion of the current state of the program.

“They’re not happy and our players found out they’re not happy, head coach Frank Martin.

“They’re not real excited with kind of some of the basketball we’ve played. The players hear it from me all the time. Now they got to experience it from guys that just wore that uniform a year ago. They didn’t come here to hate on our players, they came here to help lead because they know that’s been a problem with this team. They led by sharing their voices, their views, their ideas, their passion all day today. It was great to have them around."

Martin spoke to the media at a reception for Legends Weekend which will be highlighted by Dozier, Thornwell, Duane Notice and Justin McKie receiving their East Regional championship rings at halftime of the Auburn game.
