The two-day event surrounding the 58th annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game was capped off Tuesday evening with a fireworks show at Spirit Communications Park in front of 4,012 fans who didn't mind a little rain.
After Monday's "Celebrities vs Soldiers" softball game, the SAL Home Run Derby led into Tuesday's autograph signing at the park and then in spite of a steady rain throughout the day, the game itself was played to a 3-3 tie after seven innings. The Fireflies Dash Winningham was the MVP after he connected on a two-run double to pace the offense for the Southern Division.
The game also brought some Midlands natives back to familiar territory. Gilbert's Mike Morrison is a reliever with the Kannapolis Intimidators and Chapin's Brandon White is a pitcher with the Rome Braves.
The SAL All-Star Game was back in Columbia for the first time since 1992 when the Capital City Bombers hosted the event at Capital City Stadium.
