South Carolina State will finish second in the MEAC men's basketball standings, that according to the preseason poll based on voting by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Bulldogs received nine first-place votes and 292 points. Howard is the preseason pick to win the conference after receiving 14 first-place votes and 299 points.

Former Lower Richland and Gray Collegiate Academy standout Eric Eaves was named to the Preseason All-MEAC First Team. Eaves is a senior guard who led the Bulldogs in scoring with a 17.3 points per game average.

His teammate, Edwards Stephens who is another product of Gray Collegiate Academy, was named to the Preseason Second Team. He was S.C. State's second leading scorer with a 13.1 scoring average.

The Bulldogs finished second in the MEAC last season which also saw head coach Murray Garvin named MEAC Coach of the Year.
