Shawn Elliott's first full season as a head coach has taken him back to a familiar city.

When Elliott was the offensive line coach for USC, the Gamecocks won a pair of Capital One Bowls in Orlando. Elliott hopes to make it 3-for-3 in the Theme Park Capital of the World.

The Camden native has led Georgia State to a 6-5 record and a spot in the AutoNation Cure Bowl against a 6-6 Western Kentucky team.

For five and a half seasons, he was Steve Spurrier's offensive line coach at Carolina before serving as the interim head coach for the final six games of the 2015 season following Spurrier's resignation. He was on Will Muschamp's staff for the 2016 season before being hired to take over the Panther program. Elliott says he watched Spurrier treat bowl games as rewards for his players and has adopted a similiar approach for his guys.

When Elliott steps on the field at Camping World Stadium, he will see a familiar face on the WKU sideline as former USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Junior is the Hilltoppers' assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. His old boss will be there too as Spurrier Senior will serve as an honorary captain in the AutoNation Cure Bowl.
