South Pointe senior quarterback Derion Kendrick is the state's Gatorade Player of the Year.

The Clemson commit recently led the Stallions to a 15-0 record and a fourth-consecutive state championship. South Pointe is currently ranked fifth in the country by USA Today.

Kendrick threw for 2,683 yards and 31 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He added another 1,196 yards with 19 touchdowns rushing.

The Tigers recruited Kendrick as a receiver and that is where he is working this week in Spartanburg for Saturday's Shrine Bowl.
