Will Muschamp's second trip to Hoover for SEC Media Days is set for next Thursday and he will bring a trio of Gamecock skill players wtih him to face the more than 1,000 media members at the annual event which serves as the unofficial start to the preseason.
Quarterback Jake Bentley, receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end Hayden Hurst will accompany Muschamp to Hoover.
Bentley is the incumbent at quarterback after starting the final seven games of the 2016 season. He already ranks first on the Carolina list for career completion percentage at 65.8 after going 4-3 as a starter.
Samuel has already been amed preseason first-team All-SEC as an all-purpose back and second-team as a kick returner by Athlon. He is the top returning receiver on the team with 71 career catches for 944 yards. Samuel tied the school’s single-game record with 14 receptions and set Birmingham Bowl records with 14 catches for 190 yards against USF. Samuel had one touchdown catch but scored six times on the ground.
Hurst, who has been named preseason first-team All-SEC by Athlon, became the first sophomore in school history to be named a permanent team captain. A former professional baseball player who came to Columbia as a walk-on, was second on the team with 48 catches for 616 yards. He had one touchdown.
