Mikayla Shields registered 18 kills as the USC volleyball team defeated Alabama 3-1 on a night when the Gamecocks welcomed former players back for Alumni Night.

USC dropped the opening set 20-25 but rallied to win the next three sets - 25-22, 25-23 and 26-24.

Shields set the program's sophomore kills record, passing Shonda Cole's record of 379 set back in 2004. She also is now in the top 10 in school history for most career kills. She now has 728 in her first two seasons.

Blythewood grad and Charlotte transfer Abreia Epps posted 13 kills. She has double-digit kills in three of the last four matches.

The win came in front of an audience of former players who gathered for Alumni Night.
