The Wofford Terriers are the preseason pick to win the Southern Conference by both the coaches and media.

Mike Ayers is about to his 30th year at the helm in Spartanburg and he is coming off a 10-4 season which included an FCS playoff appearance that ended in the quarterfinals.

The Citadel, who has won the last two league titles, was picked to finish second followed by Samford, Chattanooga and Mercer.

The coaches and media then differed in the bottom part of the poll. The coaches picked Western Carolina sixth, Furman seventh with East Tennessee and VMI rounding out the coaches poll. The media selected Furman sixth, followed by Western Carolina, East Tennessee and VMI.

Hammond graduate Roo Daniels, who started all 14 games at center for Wofford in 2016, is a preseason first-team All So-Con selection. The senior is coming off a season when he earned second-team all-conference honors from the league coaches. He finished third on the team with 159 knockdown blocks including a season high 17 in the quarterfinals against youngstown State.
