Coroner identifies motorcyclist rear-ended by truck, killed in Kershaw County

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — A Cassatt man is dead following a crash involving a motorcyclist and a truck that happened Friday evening in Kershaw County.

According to Kershaw County Coroner David West, the crash happened around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Highway 1 and Park Road as both vehicles were heading south from the Cassatt area toward Camden.

Master Trooper David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle had slowed down when it was struck in the rear by a 2016 Ford truck. The coroner added that the motorcycle was turning left onto Park Road when it was struck.

The victim, 28-year-old Keith Alan Humphries Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner said Humphries was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The truck driver was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and no additional details are available at this time.
