I-20 reopens after early morning multi-vehicle crash

The crash involved both passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say two people have been taken to the hospital for relatively minor injuries after a multi-vehicle crash that happened on I-20 in Lexington County on Friday morning.

Lexington County authorities first warned of the wreck around 7:30 a.m. in the area of exit 51 to Longs Pond Road. At the time, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Lexington County Emergency Medical Services, and Lexington County Fire Services were on the scene and the county was warning that the eastbound lanes would be closed for some time. 

The nearby onramp to eastbound I-20 was also shut down by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. Authorities were soon able to open an eastbound lane to allow for interstate traffic to continue moving.

While details on the cause of the crash have not yet been released, photos from the scene show at least two tractor-trailers involved along with other passenger vehicles.

SCHP announced just shy of 11:30 that the highway had completely reopened, though, South Carolina Department of Transportation maps still show construction in the area along with at least some eastbound congestion.
