Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Some people around the Midlands may see a few rare December snowflakes late Friday into early Saturday.
Showers are expected to continue Thursday and Friday, and it will be unseasonably cool. High temperatures Thursday and Friday will be in the middle to upper 40s.
Late in the day Friday, a low pressure system will strengthen off the coast. Colder air will move in Friday evening as the low gets stronger.
As the colder air moves in Friday night, a few snowflakes may mix into the rain. If a snowflake or two falls late Friday or early Saturday, it does not look like it will be a big deal.
Ground temperatures Wednesday afternoon were in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Air temperatures late Friday and early Saturday will be slightly above freezing and drier air will be moving in from the west.
There is still a good bit of uncertainty in the forecast, but we will be monitoring it closely.
