Two inches of rain in hour flood streets but roads beginning to clear

The area saw about two inches in just one hour.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Waters are starting to recede after a heavy storm that crossed over the Columbia area on Saturday, inundating several low-lying areas with rain.

The storm brought roughly two inches of rain over a time period of about an hour.

News19 received multiple reports from around the city, from areas like Whaley Street that tend to have issues regularly to parts of downtown. News19 cameras even caught flooding along various parts of Rosewood Drive and Gervais Street.

But one of the hardest-hit areas appears to have been Five Points. News19 has crews in the area looking into how the community is cleaning up after the sudden washout.

The good news, at this point, is that the waters that were once high enough to easily stall out vehicles have mostly drained from the area.
