From Midland to the Midlands…Texas to South Carolina, that is. Ashley Yarchin joined WLTX News19 as a general assignment reporter in September 2005. She came to us by way of Midland, Texas, where she was a reporter/anchor for KMID.
But Ashley made many stops across the United States along the way. She caught the news bug covering a murder mystery as an intern at WSVN in Miami. From there, she went to work for News19’s Gannett sister station in St. Louis. While there, Ashley did everything from rolling teleprompter to off-air reporting. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor’s degree in Comparative Arts in December 2002.
That’s when she moved to Chicago to get her Master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Through the school’s broadcast network, Ashley headed to Washington, D.C. to work as KMID’s capital correspondent. After graduation, the West Texas station hired her as its crime reporter.
But Ashley couldn’t wait to return to the Gannett family and that’s how she found WLTX. Now, she’s glad to be back on the East Coast…closer to her hometown, Ft. Lauderdale.
