Bob Shields is Sports Director at News 19 and anchors the 6 & 11pm sportscasts. His field reports take him on the road with the USC Gamecock football, basketball, and baseball teams. He and the Gamecocks are now on the road regulars during the holiday bowl season.

Bob graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Journalism in 1981. He started at News 19 during the spring semester of his senior year at Carolina. After graduation, Bob joined the staff as a full-time sports reporter and photographer.

Bob was honored with an unprecedented three consecutive South Carolina Broadcasters Association Sportscaster of the Year Awards (1995,'96,'97).

Shields is most proud of the News 19 Player of the Week feature he helped start. This weekly report recognizes outstanding high school students who excel both on the playing field and in the classroom.

"Having worked in the same shop for over two decades, I've seen plenty of changes at WLTX-TV, but nothing compares to the growth we've experienced in the last few years. I'm extremely proud to be a member of a team that I know is working to be the number one news team in the Midlands. It's very exciting!"

Bob and his wife Renee' have two children, Kevin and Gena. Bob's favorite pastime is playing golf and/or watching his son Kevin play golf. Reading bedtime stories, visiting the zoo and looking at Christmas lights are also favorite activities in the Shields' household.

Bob regularly speaks to students and youth groups about sportscasting and the importance of education. He also has served as Master of Ceremonies for Irmo Little League's annual opening day, and looks forward to the day his children are able to take their turn at the plate.
