Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Multiple sources tell News19 that Ray Tanner will be named the next athletics director for the University of South Carolina. That announcement is expected Friday at 2 p.m.

Talk about Tanner's rise to the head of the department has swirled since Eric Hyman left the position to accept the athletics director job at Texas A&M.  Earlier this week, Hyman told News19 that he and Tanner had talked previously about leading the department and how the administrative post is different than coaching.

Ray tanner is the three-time National Coach of the Year for NCAA Baseball and has been with USC for 16 years.  His success on the baseball field includes back-to-back national championships in 2010 and 2011.

Before joining South Carolina, Tanner coached NC State for nine seasons. Before becoming the Wolf Packs head coach, he served as assistant overseeing recruiting efforts and coaching third base.

Tanner's record as South Carolina's baseball coach is 738-316.

Associate Head Coach Chad Holbrook is expected to be named head baseball coach early next week after Tanner's promotion is announced.
