Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The USC baseball team is ranked fifth in USA TODAY Sports Preseason Coaches' poll.
The poll was released Thursday afternoon.
USC finished as the national runner-up last season, losing to Arizona in the College World Series. They had won the previous two national titles.
This will be the team's first season under new head coach Chad Holbrook. Holbrook took over for Ray Tanner, who became USC's Athletics Director last July.
The new coach will have plenty of talent to rely on. Six position starters and 25 pitchers are returning. Four of them (catcher Grayson Greiner, pitcher Tyler Webb, pitcher Colby Holmes and pitcher Jordan Montgomery) are preseason All-Americans.
Arkansas was ranked number one in the USA TODAY poll. The Razorbacks' season, oddly enough, ended when they lost to the Gamecocks in the College World Series.
