The Marvel Cinematic Universe has high hopes for its most popular character. WLTX
(WLTX) - Since his conception in 1962, it took forty years before "Spider-Man" finally made it to the big screen. However, after his arrival fifteen years ago, we have witnessed three different cinematic incarnations. Each has possessed good qualities - but this is the first with his sights set on being more than just "your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."
Our initial introduction to Tom Holland actually came in last year's "Captain America: Civil War." And, now that he has gotten the Avengers' attention, he's eager to become a full-time member. Unfortunately, they don't think he's quite ready. Still, they set him up with a new fully-loaded suit, complete with drones and a sexy sounding Artificial Intelligence! They must expect something from him.
As luck would have it, the webslinger crosses paths with a few thugs who are using alien weapons for their dirty work. By retrieving one of those pieces, our hero is able to determine their home base of operations. Should a high school student take on such endeavors? After all, he does have the Homecoming dance to prepare for. Well, with great power comes great vulnerability.
This is definitely not your father's Spider-Man. His "spidey sense" never tingles and he doesn't shoot photos for the Daily Bugle. He's a digital age wallcrawler in search of a promotion. And, unlike our previous players, this one really looks like a high-schooler.
The playful tone is accounted for. But, many times, the special-effects look like they're straight out of a video game. Nevertheless, it's a fresh, new take with a tremendous future. And that makes for a very happy Leemoji!
You may be inclined to skip the big dance. But I encourage everyone to make it to "Homecoming."
