COLUMBIA, SC - (WLTX) -- 701 Whaley CCA presented a young artists festival Saturday afternoon.
The event celebrated young artists ages 6-17 throughout the Midlands. Kids and families also had the opportunity to speak with some of the artists and participate in various activities, which included games and craft stations.
Kara Soper, who is the Operations Manager at 701 CCA, says she hopes the festival gave kids a chance to express themselves through art.
“Make sure that parents know there is somewhere safe for their children to go to in the summer time when they’re out of school.” Soper says. “A place where they can really express themselves, explore creativity and hopefully extend what they’ve been learning in school.”
Kids also had a chance to learn about marbling and other art techniques at the festival. Judy Grier attended the festival with her grandchildren and she says her and her family enjoyed themselves and learned a lot while at the festival.
“We thought it might be a fun thing to do for an afternoon activity.” Grier says. “The kids thoroughly enjoyed everything they have done, it has been great for us to learn about tie-dying and marbling.“
This marked the fourth year 701 CCA presented the festival to the public.
