'If You Shop Here, You're Supporting My Dream'

In between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday. News19's Lana Harris reports.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - In all the chaos and frenzy surrounding Black Friday and Cyber Monday, local shop owners hoped you didn't forget about Small Business Saturday.

Small business Saturday targets the local shop owner - people who take a risk to open up a shop in their community.

News 19 spoke with local shop owners in Columbia, who say the day is very important to them.

"For me, if you shop here, you're supporting my dream," said Ryleigh Flemming, owner of Wildflower Boutique in Five Points. "This is just like a dream come true."

"By shopping with me as opposed to going to a big box store, to me it means a neighborly feel," said Kelly Tabor, owner of Good for the Sole Shoes and Accessories in Five Points.

Carol Hilton with 2Gs in Five Points says it's support for local people, by local people.

"I don't have a mansion in the Hamptons, I have a home in Forest Acres," Hilton said, "so you support your neighbors."

The shop owners say all of the community support makes their leap of faith all the more worth it.

"I feel like when customers come in, they feel that it's personable and that we've all had our hands in making it feel home-y," said Elliott Bridgers, owner of Mainstream Boutique on Devine Street. "I think that definitely translates."

Small Business Saturday was started in 2010 by American Express.
