'Martin' Actor Tommy Ford Dies at Age 52

ATLANTA (WXIA)  -- Actor Tommy Ford passed away Wednesday afternoon, multiple sources said.

Ford, 52, was best-known for playing the role of Martin Lawrence's best friend in the 1990s sitcom "Martin."

He had been in the hospital battling an unknown condition, a representative told 11Alive earlier Wednesday. Rumors had spread on social media that he had passed away, but the rep refuted those reports.

However, Jay Mathis PR later Tweeted that Ford passed away at 4:50 p.m, "surrounded by family and close friends." In a photo posted on Ford's Instagram page, the following message was posted:

"To all family and friends of Tommy Ford. We would like to inform everyone that our brother passed away today October 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Please keep his family in your prayers as they go through this challenging time. He was so dearly loved by so many and for that lets all be grateful for a life well served."

TMZ.com also reported the news, saying Ford died in an Atlanta hospital of a brain aneurysm.

In addition to his role on "Martin", Ford also appeared in Harlem Nights and Across the Tracks.
