OK, folks. The joke is getting a little old for us weathermen. If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a zillion times – “It’s the only job where you can be wrong 50% of the time and still keep your job”…

It’s time to think of a NEW joke!

It was cute for the first thousand times I’ve heard it, but now it’s just annoying to listen to it (like that “Macarena” song back in the 90’s).

Don’t get me wrong - it’s not that I’m offended in the least about this joke (if I were, I’d have been gone my second day on the job). I’ve been called much worse and have probably only had a preview of what is to come. I do, however, think that it’s time to think of a new, more accurate catch phrase for all the geeky weathermen out there.

We can resurrect a few of my old favorites to try,

“What kind of dartboard do you make your forecasts with?”
“Don’t they have a window installed in the Weather Center yet for you guys?”
“Do you and fortune tellers share the same crystal ball?”

Or better yet, we can try something new!

“It’s the only job where I can actually listen to dorks with glasses and bad hair cuts.”

Seriously, I don’t care if it’s insulting or even a little inaccurate (although, the one I just gave is pretty darn good), but the old slogan has got to go.

So here’s my challenge to all of you: Hit us with your best shot!! You always wanted your chance to rip into local weather dudes, so let’s hear ‘em! We need a new joke/slogan/catch phrase for all the nerdy weathermen and weatherwomen out there. It can be insulting, clever, nice, whatever…

Oh, and if you think this is your chance to really insult us, good luck. As meteorologists, we have thick skin from years and years of name calling (and I’ve had a few extra from all of those names I was called in elementary school). Oh, and no profanities – I want to be able to hear the joke when I visit local schools too!

Good luck!
