I was something very unique growing up - in my entire grade level, I was the only person who was an only child.

Lots of people ask me, "Was it difficult growing up without brothers and sisters?"

I often reply, 'not really'.

I have loving parents who did everything for me, but were also busy making a living so we could live comfortably. So, I oftentimes found myself making up my own games on days where I had to entertain myself. This led to the development of a very creative imagination for me.

With an absence of siblings, I believe that I also had closer ties to my friends and considered them family, since I had few people to talk to or play with when I was younger.

Another plus, of course, was having 100% of the attention. Sharing was never a problem, and,....well, let's face it, I was spoiled when I was young.

Of course, it's easy for me to say this, but those of you with loving sisters and brothers probably find it impossible to imagine life without them.

Now that I'm a dad, I've given serious thought as to my child and what it would be like if she grew up without brothers and sisters.

Don't get me wrong, it's been a life-changing event for us, but with all the joy that Penny has brought us, I would go through it all over again in a heartbeat!

But, at 2, Penny is very independent and also loves getting attention, so it's hard to imagine her sharing the love/space with another baby.

My wife, who has a sister, feels that she would benefit from have a younger brother or sister to grow up with and play with (like she did).

As always, there are also financial reasons. Despite the common misconception of TV personalites being millionares, I can honestly say that every paycheck is important in our house. Thus, I wouldn't want Penny's comfortable lifestyle to change, just because we decided to 'have another'.

So, for everyone who sees me asking the question "So, when's the next one on the way?", my response is "not sure...maybe never..."
