I love numbers! If there’s one thing I love doing, it’s finding out statistics, and especially if it involves the weather.
What prompted this latest inquiry was the 5 consecutive Saturdays w/rain streak that we currently have going. I was curious as to what has been the rainiest day of the week since records began. So, I whipped up a quick computer program to find it out...
These statistics are for the Columbia Metro Airport from July 1, 1887 to Present Approximately 44,169 days on record (about 6,310 weeks)
Rainiest Day of Week: THURSDAY – 1,960 days w/measurable rain out of 6,310
Driest Day of Week: MONDAY –1,850 days w/measurable rain out of 6,308
Day with Most Rain per Storm MONDAY – 0.417” of rain fell (on average) per storm on this day
Day with Least Rain per Storm SUNDAY – 0.386” of rain fell (on average) per storm on this day
Day with the Most 1”+ Rain Storms TUESDAY – 236 rain events with 1 or more inches or rain recorded on this day
Day with the Most 2”+ Rain Storms TUESDAY – 57 rain events with 2 or more inches or rain recorded on this day

Strangely, out of all those records, Wednesday and Friday seem to be the most average as they didn’t place in any category.
