Boats Decked Out for Lake Murray July 4th Boat Parade

People spent the day celebration that nation's independence and having fun.

Lake Murray, SC (WLTX) - Hundreds of people come out Saturday for the 29th annual Lake Murray Boat Parade.

This year's theme for the parade was the "Star Spangled Celebration."

Boats competed for the most patriotic boat that fit this year's theme. Some of the boats featured cannons, colorful smoke, people dressed as the Statue of Liberty, and even had some four-legged friends as part of the show.

Not only was the event to celebrate the country's independence, but to show what the Lake Murray area has to offer.

"Lake Murray spans four counties which are Richland, Lexington, Newberry, and Saluda. It's defintley about being able to see just how big Lake Murray is and just how family oriented it is, and how it brings families together for the summertime and especially the fourth of July," said Jeffrey Anderson with Capital City Lake Murray Country.

The fun didn't stop there. People got the chance to catch fireworks on the lake to end their day.
