Columbia, SC (WLTX) – Shop owners are expecting to be busy for Small Business Saturday.
The annual tradition encourages folks to shop locally.
Reece Miller of the Monkee's boutique on Devine Street says they've been advertising special sales ahead of the weekend to get people in the door.
“So a lot of preparation, a lot of consideration goes into the kind of deals that we’re going to have, and how we can be set apart from other small businesses as well,” Miller explained enthusiastically.
A few doors down, Elliott Bridgers of Mainstream Boutique is also gearing up for the big weekend.
“We anticipate that this weekend really kicks off the holiday shopping. People have Christmas or the holidays on their mind, and they realize oh goodness I need to figure out what I’m going to get my significant other and the kids,” Bridgers said. “The weather has gotten a bit cooler so I think definitely people are out shopping for those various reasons.”
Both say it’s important for folks to put money back into the local economy.
Last year, shoppers spent more than $16 billion on Small Business Saturday.
