Help Your Kid Finish the School Year Strong

Sylvan Learning Center shares tips to help your kids beat the end-of-year fatigue.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - With warmer temperatures, it's easy for kids to lose focus at the end of the school year.

Cynthia Hacker from Sylvan Learning Center shared tips to help your kids beat the end-of-year fatigue:

  1. Make a Plan: use a calendar to map out big assignments including final projects and exams. Keep a pen or maker handy so kids can mark off these items when they are complete.
  2. Ask 'What if?': Help your child understand the effects of slacking off. Ask questions to help them learn that one assignment or test could have long-term effects on their overall grade.
  3. Know where your child stands: Review previous report cars and assignments and don't be afraid to check in with your child's teacher. This can help you figure out which subjects your child should focus on.
  4. Give incentives and Rewards: Reward your child for studying all week with a trip to the park, ice cream shop or the movies.
  5. Stick to your Routine: If you've spent the entire year doing homework and going to bed at a certain time, now is not the time to deviate. Staying on the same schedule helps your child stay in the school mindset until summer break begins.
