Public art sails into Chapin

After a year long process, local artists are setting up 13 new pieces of art in Chapin.

CHAPIN, S.C. — The Crooked Creek Art League has been working on a public art project now on display all around the town of Chapin.

Former president of the Crooked Creek Art League and artist Sonya Diimmler told us, “We had a nice donation from one of our members/benefactors to do a community art project and we came up with this idea to use the town of Chapin’s logo and to have our artists embellish them."

Diimmler 'embellished' one of the 13 works of art but today, they were putting up the one her mother worked on.

“I really wanted to be apart of what was happening in Chapin and support the art league and support Chapin as well," Ann Bodie Sweeney says, "I love the lake, I love the sunsets and that was the first thing I thought," Sweeney says of her sunset and lake inspired work. "My daughter is an artist, she has also done a sailboat and we’ve loved doing them together … its been real special.”

Steven Reed is a local metal sculptor and prepared all of the boats for painting.

“It’s about being a part of the community. Its about reaching out and having people comment and stop you when you’re in the store and say ‘hey man that’s awesome, that’s cool.’ That’s what it means." said Reed, "It's being part of the town of Chapin.”
