USC Scores A Lot And Wins Series Over No.19 lSU

COLUMBIA, SC — A lot of USC baseball fans are wondering what is going with the Gamecocks this year? Consistency comes to mind but after their 11-4 win and series clincher over No.19 LSU on Saturday USC might be ready to string together some winning performances more often than not.

After their 11-0 pounding of LSU on Friday today was USC's chance to clinch the series. Well they did it in the first two innings.

LT Tolbert sparks the offense with a double to right field in the opening frame. Carlos Cortes scores off the hit and USC up 1-0. They would 3-0 at the end of the first after a wild pitch and fielder's choice for two runs.

In the second frame Madison Stokes makes contact and that's good for a double to right field as well. He plates two Gamecocks and now USC's lead is up to 5-0. That was part of a career day for Stokes out of AC Flora who finished with a career high four rbis.

Starting pitcher Adam Hill finds himself with the bases loaded in the fourth. He just settles and throws strikes. Hill sends LSU next two batters back to the dugout for two clutch Ks to end the inning. Hill had seven strikeouts in six shutout innings.

USC dismantles number 19 LSU. 11-4 the final. It's the first time USC has scored double-digit runs in back to back games this year.

The Gamecocks are one win away a sweep over a top 25 team.

"I think it should absolutely help our confidence and I think it also proves to the guys what it takes from a preparation standpoint to play this well," USC head coach Mark Kingston said.

The Gamecocks are now 22-17 overall and 8-9 in the SEC after the win.

"Our last two practices before starting this series were pretty intense. So I think it just reiterates that you need to prepare at that level. So I think it shows you that and I then I think it does build your confidence that when you do have this kind of success you want more," Kingston added.

"We've struggled here and there throughout the season and I think we're just finally trying to really figure things out and come together," Stokes said. "Tighten up some knots here and there and I think we're doing a great job of that. I think it showed these weekend and we're going to continue to make improvements on the field, off the field as we move forward."

USC will wrap up the series at 1:30 pm on Sunday in Founders Park.
