USC Women Take 2nd Place At SEC Golf Championships

SEC Network

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Gamecocks women's golf team was in position for the SEC title as they ended match play in Birmingham Alabama.

USC and Arkansas battled all day and it came down to the 18th hole. Kaylee Benton got the par to edge Carolina's SEC champion Ainhoa Olarra on the last hole of the day.

USC came back in four matches to make it close but Arkansas wins it 3-2.

Head coach Kalen Anderson says this runner up finish will pay off for the Gamecocks.

"We're peaking at the right time and I couldn't be happier for this group. We basically won the stroke play side of it and went all the way to the finals and took Arkansas to the very last hole down to the end. It could've gone either way. I think we're more than ready for Regionals now. This is a big confidence boost . We just have to get through Finals and take this momentum and move into Regionals and hopefully Nationals and a great experience," Anderson said.

NCAA Regionals begin on May 7.
