USC Adds Incentives to Keep Dawn Staley Around Longer

USC head women's basketball coach Dawn Staley could receive an extra $1.5 million just for sticking around for another five seasons.

While many coaches might receive $1.5 for leaving, Dawn Staley is getting an extra $1.5 million just for sticking around through 2022.

The USC Board of Trustees has approved a longevity bonus for Staley. The new deal will put $300,000 into a fund each year for the next five years. If Staley is still courtside at the Colonial Life Arena in 2022, she will collect the $1.5 million longevity bonus.

It was just last year when Staley received a new contract after leading the Gamecocks to the national championship. That deal is for eight years and worth $14 million, making her the highest paid coach in the SEC.

This new bonus does not affect her current contract, but what it does is further cement the USC administration's commitment to Staley who not only has led the program to unprecedented heights in the win-loss column but also has watched her program lead the country in attendance.
