Arrest Made in Connection With Man Found in Burning Car

Camden, SC (WLTX) -- Kershaw County Sheriff Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for 22 year-old Robert Wendell Simon, charging him with murder in connection to a March 22nd incident here.

On the 22nd Deputies arrived near the intersection of Black River Road and Pathfinder Trailer in Camden, where they found a 1999 Ford Taurus in a ditch, on fire with the driver behind the wheel.

The deputy attempted to put the fire out, but was not successful. He extracted the driver before it burned.

The driver, Antwan Mario Dixon, 25, was airlifted to Palmetto Richland. It was then discovered that he had been shot in the head.

Kershaw Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Simon on the charge of murder. Simon turned himself into the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office on April 1st following the advice of his attorney, and was transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center, where he will be held pending a bond hearing.
