Does this advertisement from Together NC insult South Carolina?
Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A video ad posted by a North Carolina group pokes fun at our state.
North Carolina is currently debating budget cuts and the video argues that the cuts should not be made lest their state end up like ours.
"We can stay on the path to prosperity through smart investment, not short-sighted cuts," the online advertisement states. "Of course, there is a different path, but wouldn't we rather stay in North Carolina?"
As the second part is read, a road sign that says "Welcome to North Carolina" changes to "South Carolina Welcomes You."
Together NC, the group that released the ad, is a coalition of more than 100 organizations in North Carolina.
"In no way was the video meant to insult the people of South Carolina as a whole or individually," the organization said in a statment. "It was intended to reach elected officials who have chosen to retreat from public investments like K-12, higher education, and health care over the years when North Carolina has not."
One of the many organizations endorsing Together NC is the United Way of North Carolina.
"In today's challenging economic times, all non-profit organizations struggle," United Way of the Midlands president Mac Bennett said in a statement. "The video that was put together in North Carolina to address this challenge is in poor taste. United Way nationally recognizes the need for us all to work together in order for our communities to be a better place to live, work and play."
