Peter Holland as 'Abraham Lincoln.'
Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Hand Middle School students are getting a lesson on President's Day that is quite different from their every day history class.
In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War, the "Mr. Lincoln's Office, a Visit with the President" was adapted and performed by veteran actor Peter Holland.
Students learned about Lincoln's early political career, his battle against slavery, his election as President, the Emancipation Proclamation and the creation of the Gettysburg Address.
"I thought it was really neat that we got to go back in the past and just kinda forget about everything else," said Ethan Platanas, an 8th grader at Hand Middle School.
"Personally I learn by seeing things instead of reading things so I found this very interesting and I think every Presidents Day should be like this," said Carmen Hare.
Students usually have President's Day off, but after the recent snowfall caused many to miss several days of school, the holiday was turned into a makeup day.
