Columbia, SC --- Bench production and high percentage shooting delivered a 67-54 South Carolina victory over Appalachian State in the first round of the Women's NIT at Colonial Life Arena Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks (18-14) got 39 points off the bench, including a double-double from junior Charenee Stephens to pull away from the scrappy Mountaineers in the second half.

South Carolina handed out a season-high 18 assists, led by junior La'Keisha Sutton's seven, and shot 50.0 percent from the field.

Carolina's 50.0 percent field goal shooting was its highest since netting 52.1 percent against Presbyterian on Dec. 28. Stephens led the way in points and rebounds with 13 and 11, respectively, with five of her boards coming on the offensive end. Ashley Bruner and Markeshia Grant each added 12 points to the offense.

The Gamecocks advance to the WNIT's second round and will host Charlotte on Sun., March 20, at 2 p.m. at Colonial Life Arena.
