Eutawville, SC (WLTX) - The Eutawville police chief has been put on leave while an investigation into an officer-involved shooting takes place.

No real details of the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released, but News19 learned Tuesday that Police Chief Richard Combs has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Orangeburg County coroner's office says 54-year-old Bernard Bailey died Monday morning from several gunshot wounds. He died after a confrontation outside Eutawville's town hall.

The Orangeburg County coroner says Bailey was shot twice in the chest and once in the shoulder.

Combs is the only law-enforcement officer in the Eutawville Police Department. The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office is providing coverage to the town while the investigation is underway.

Deputies were at the scene again Tuesday. The State Law Enforcement Division, which is investigating, has not commented on the circumstances around the shooting.

The chief is on leave until the investigation is complete.
