Sens. Vincent Sheheen and Jake Knotts.
Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A familiar senator duo has teamed up again to introduce legislation to prevent fraud and corruption.
Senator Vincent Sheheen, a Democrat from Kershaw County, and Senator Jake Knotts, a Republican from Lexington County, announced the bill that would offer job protection for people who report lawbreakers.
It also gives that person 10 percent of the money that's recovered by a government agency.
The senators say the bill applies to government employees of city, county and state government as well as special districts, but not private companies..
"We need to make sure that the person on the ground is protected just like our troops are. We need to give them the tools and the protection needed to report stuff if they know it's going on," said Knotts.
The senator says the bill will strengthen current laws, deter corruption and provide incentives for people to come forward with what they know.
Senator Knotts and Sheheen teamed up earlier this year to sponsor legislation banning political action committees or PACs in the senate.
