Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A judge set the bond for a 20-year-old woman accused of causing an accident that killed 71-year-old, Billy Dean Randall, a retired Lexington pastor.
Mary Reames, 20, was assigned a bond of $100,000 Friday, and she is required to pay 10 percent of that total. She was charged with felony DUI resulting in death Thursday after a Wednesday accident at the intersection of Whaley and Assembly Streets in Columbia. During the hearing, Reames's attorney told the judge that his client is a serious, hard-working college student that made a poor decision. The attorney also expressed sympathy for Randall's family.
Stephen Williamson, the current pastor of the Gethsamane Baptist Church where Randall served, represented the Randall family during the Friday hearing. Speaking on the family's behalf, Williamson offered Reames forgiveness, but said that the accident was a serious offense.
A third vehicle was involved in the Wednesday collision, but the driver was not seriously injured.
Columbia police said that Reames drove her vehicle through a traffic light and hit two cars at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Reames's drivers license was taken away as part of her bond, and she's not allowed to have contact with Randall's family. She is also required to seek counseling.
