Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Richland County Fire Marshal's Office says an early Sunday morning fire at Hunter's Green Apartments was intentionally set.

They released their preliminary findings Sunday night and said the blaze began on the back side of Building 222.

Firefighters were called out to the apartment complex near Two Notch and Alpine Roads just before 6 a.m. Sunday.  Sixteen apartments were damaged, with eight of those completely destroyed, according to officials.  They say all residents were able to make it out safely and there were no injuries.

The Red Cross helped 19 people and say that 40 people were affected overall.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case.  Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, or e-mail a tip in to Crimestoppers of the Midlands. You can also text information in by texting "TIPSC" plus your message to CRIMES (274637). Either way you choose, your identity will remain anonymous, and you could be eligible for a cash reward.
