Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Executive Director of South Carolina's Budget and Control Board, Eleanor Kitzman, has resigned to take a job in Texas.
Texas Governor Rick Perry's office confirmed that Kitzman will be the new State Commissioner of Insurance in the Lone Star State, effective Aug. 15.
"I'm confident that Eleanor's expertise in the insurance industry will make her a strong advocate for insurance customers in Texas, and I appreciate her willingness to serve the state in this capacity," Gov. Perry said in a statement.
Kitzman is from Texas, and formerly was a clerk for the Texas Supreme Court and was an associate as the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, and Feld.
Kitzman has only served in her current position in South Carolina for six months. Year ago, she served as the director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance.
"Eleanor Kitzman has given great service to our state both as Director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance and at the Budget and Control Board, where she laid the groundwork for continued work on much-needed reform, including a Department of Administration," said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in a statement. "Governor Rick Perry and the people of Texas are fortunate."
