Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department IS still looking for others involved in Thursday night dog fighting operation bust.

On Thursday the Richland County Sheriff's office received a call from a neighbor about dogs barking at a home along the 600 block of Camp Ground Road.

When deputies arrived, they say they found a group of people and 33 pit bulls.

One person was arrested: 23 year-old Stanley Taylor Jr. He was charged with animal fighting or baiting.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says when deputies arrived two dogs were already fighting. As soon as the group realized officers were on the scene - they all ran.

"It was organized, we feel it was very organized event and operation thats why we are in a very active investigation to identify everyone who was involved  and try to rescue these dogs and shut this operation down," said Lott.

Deputies searched by ground and air but many of those at the fight got away because it was so dark. Friday investigators combed the area again looking for dogs that may have gotten away Thursday night.

"Some that are injured some thats been in fights. Its something that terrible that people would put dogs like this for sport and to watch dogs mutilate and kill each other, thats about as low as you can get," said Lott.

The dogs were taken to a secret location for the safety of the dogs and the people who are taking care of them.
